Silver Lining

Mixed Media on canvas, 10 m x 218 cm

Silver linings are simply the good aspects of challenging or painful situations. The ability to perceive silver linings is an optimistic mindset that promotes emotional resilience and the ability to adapt to an uncertain future. "Silver Lining" is a breathtaking environmental painting that captures the essence of hope and strength in the face of environmental challenges. The artwork is a visual representation of the delicate balance between the natural world and human impact, evoking a sense of both concern and optimism.

Inspired by Anolis vermiculatus, also known as the Cuban stream anole, member of the dactyloidae family, a terrestrial creature whose defensive mechanism from predators is to change color to silver when submerged and have the ability to create its own air pocket to breathe under water. The painting underwent several stresses and was submerged entirely in water and withstood rain for a natural aging process which gave the painting the effect of metallic snakeskin. Bold strokes of color turned into a fluid carpet of silk. Sound written for the piece mirrors the movement and fluidity of the painting. "Silver Lining" serves as a call to action and an audio-visual reminder that, even in the face of challenges, there is always hope and the potential for positive change. The painting invites viewers to contemplate the fragile harmony between humanity and the environment, encouraging us to be stewards of our planet and find the silver lining in the threat we face.
